Executive Officer - LT Eric Johnson, Hometown: Potomac, MD.
Been on Hi'ialakai since December 2007.
LT Eric Johnson’s previous sailing experience was on NOAA Ship Oregon II out of Pascagoula, MS. Prior to reporting to the Hi'ialakai he served as the XO at the NOAA Dive Center in Seattle, WA. He holds a B. S. in Marine Biology from the University of Maryland. |

Operations Officer - LTjg Kyle Ryan
Been on Hi'ialakai since June, 2008.
LTJG Kyle Ryan’s previous sailing experience was on a variety of Coast Guard ships, including a tour as the Diving Officer on the CGC Sassafras based out of Apra Harbor, Guam. LTJG Ryan graduated High Honors from the United States Coast Guard Academy with a degree in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering. He also holds an MBA from Old Dominion University. LTJG Ryan and his wife Catharine, a Coast Guard helicopter pilot, reside in Waialua, HI.

Navigation Officer - 3M Jeff Sage
Been on Hi'ialakai since October 2008.
Jeffrey Zephyr Sage began sailing with NOAA as a GVA out of Honolulu in the summer of 2000. He has since sailed for the DOC in Alaska, Mississippi, Hawaii, and all up and down the West Coast, Saipan and Samoa. He now sails on his Third Mate license that he earned in the winter of 2007. Jeff was born and raised on the island of Oahu and lives there now with his beautiful wife Kelley. He is a proud graduate of Lanikai Elementary School and enjoys long walks, glass balls and cats.

Junior Officer - ENS Lyndsey Keen
Been on Hi'ialakai since September 2009.
ENS Lyndsey Keen graduated with Honors from the University of West Florida, earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology. Upon graduation, she was an intern with the Student Conservation Association, first working in Natural Resources at Richmond National Battlefield Park, and then as a Deckhand/Educator on the schooner SoundWaters out of Stamford, CT. The Hi’ialakai is her first NOAA Corps assignment.
