Q: Are there any job opportunities with the NOAA Marine Operations Center-Pacific?
A: All job opportunities with NOAA are posted on the USAJobs website (http://www.USAJobs.gov).
Q: I am planning a trip to Newport. Can I visit the facility there?
A: MOC-P will not be open to the public on a daily basis, but we plan to offer the public opportunities to visit the facility and ships as we are able. Visit opportunities will be posted to this website when scheduled. Meanwhile, we encourage residents and visitors to learn more about NOAA's Pacific fleet at http://www.moc.noaa.gov/mop-newport.html. Be sure to check out NOAA's website at http://www.noaa.gov. Also, Newport, Oregon offers a variety of venues where the public can learn more about marine science, including the Hatfield Marine Science Center and Oregon Coast Aquarium. For more information about these and other opportunities, visit http://discovernewport.com.
Q: How often will NOAA ships be in Newport?
A: During the field season (generally spring to fall), NOAA ships spend most of their time at sea conducting oceanographic research, fisheries surveys, and sea floor mapping operations. When in port, NOAA ships may be seen from a variety of locations in the Yaquina Bay area. To view the current location of any NOAA ship, check out the NOAA Ship Tracker (http://shiptracker.noaa.gov/default.aspx).
Q: I have questions about the NOAA Marine Operations Center-Pacific. Who do I contact for more information?
A: Please contact MOC-P’s Deputy OPS at deputyops.mop@noaa.gov.
