JJ has sailed aboard ships since 1975. He worked on fishing and cargo ships prior to joining NOAA. In 2001 he joined the crew of McArthur then transferred to the McArthur II.

2nd Engineer- William E Hance, Hometown: Traverse City, Michigan

Has been on the McArthur II since June 2007.

After retiring from the US Navy, Bill worked aboard cargo ships on the Great Lakes for 13 years. In addition to McArthur II, Bill has sailed on Miller Freeman and Oscar Dyson.
