Commanding Officer - LCDR Stephen Meador
Been Commanding Officer on Nancy Foster since August 2010
Lieutenant Commander Stephen Meador has been a NOAA Corps officer for 16 years, and joins the NOAA Ship Nancy Foster on his fourth sea assignment. He previously served aboard NOAA Ships Nancy Foster (Executive Officer), Ronald H. Brown (Operations Officer and Plankholder), Rainier, Adventurous (now Oscar Elton Sette), and Surveyor. During his seagoing career, LCDR Meador has supported missions across the globe, including the Atlantic, Pacific, Arctic, Antarctic, and Indian Ocean.
Ashore, LCDR Meador's assignments have included OAR Research Platform Resource Manager in Silver Spring, MD; Program Coordination Officer at the NOAA Coastal Services Center in Charleston, SC, and; Assistant Scientific Support Coordinator for the East Coast on Governors Island, NY.
LCDR Meador holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oklahoma State University and a Master's Degree in Environmental Health Engineering from the University of Kansas. Other career accomplishments include being a thermal engineer in the space program, a documentary film maker, and a freelance public radio producer.
