Chief Engineer

Chief Marine Engineer - Tim Olsen, Hometown: Wisconsin Rapids, WI

2005 NOAA Marine and Aviation Operations Employee of the Year

Been on Nancy Foster since, March 2003.

CME Olsen is an outdoor sportsman who enjoys fishing, hunting, and golfing. During football season, he is an avid Packer fan. He resides in Mt. Pleasant, SC with his wife and two children.

1AE

1st Assistant Engineer-Thomas Cleary, Hometown: Bourne, MA

Been on Nancy Foster since, October 2005.

3AE Cleary is a graduate of Elon University (formerly Elon College) with a BS in History. However, he had a desire to work at sea so he acquired his Junior Engineer qualification. Tom then earned his 3rd Mate's License through sea time and studying. His prior service includes tours on Rude and Thomas Jefferson. He resides in Monks Corner, SC with his wife, daughter and son.

3rd Assistant Engineer – Carlito Delapena, Hometown: San Jose City, Nueva Ecija, PI

3rd Assistant Engineer Delapena was born and raised in the San Jose City, Phillipines. He joined the Navy in November, 1982 and retired 21 years later in 2003 as an engine man. After joining NOAA in 2006, he began working aboard the NOAA Ship David Starr Jordan and was transferred to the Nancy Foster in March, 2009. He loves to sail and travel around the world aboard NOAA ships
