Carl worked on the Rainier for 5 years and was in the augmentation pool for two years where he worked on the Nancy Foster and Albatross IV.

Bosun Group Leader - Jeffrey Brawley, Hometown: Virginia Beach, Virginia
Jeff has enjoyed his 25 year + career working on deck for NOAA. His repertoire includes the following NOAA ships: Nancy Foster, Rude, Whiting, Kai'imimoana, Researcher, Mount Mitchell and Pierce. In his free time, Jeff enjoys golf, bicycling, exercise and movies.

Deck Utilityman - Kirk Perry, Hometown: Rancho Murieta, CA
Born in San Jose, CA, Kirk started with NOAA in September 2004 on the NOAA Ship Miller Freeman. After 4 years on the Freeman, and a brief period on the John N. Cobb in 2007, he then joined the relief pool to continue Alaska Fisheries work aboard the Oscar Dyson. Kirk grew up fishing in Monterey Bay for salmon and Albacore, and participated in athletics which eventually led to an athletic scholarship for men’s baseball at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he majored in Natural Resources Management. Kirk pursued a career in the general engineering construction industry for about 18 years before making the switch to the maritime industry. Kirk wanted to join the Okeanos Explorer since the ship was announced in 2006, and is glad to be a part of her exploratory missions of the world’s oceans.

General Vessel Assistant - James Deeton, Hometown: Alexandria, Virginia
A graduate of Del Mar College, in Corpus Christi, TX, James has a Dual AAS Degree in Electronic and Communication Servicing and C.I.S. Networking Technology. James like to fish and learn about astronomy. He has also worked on the NOAA Ships Albatross IV, Nancy Foster and Kai'imimoana in the deck and engine departments.

General Vessel Assistant - Jack Standfast, Hometown: St. Petersburg, FL
Jack is married and has 2 daughters in college. A Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, he also enjoys road racing and the outdoors. Jack was a residential built-in appliance installation contractor for Sears before joining NOAA. Jack also served in the U.S. Navy as a snipe (engineer) on a repair ship submarine tender and an aircraft carrier.
