Bongo Tows

Bongo Net

Bongo casts are done off the J-frame on the port side of the forward deck of the Oregon II. Bongos are double, 61 centimeter diameter, oblique, 0.333 micron nets designed to be lowered at a 45 degree angle to sample plankton in the water column down to 200 meters or the bottom if shallower than 200 meters. Instrumentation is attached to the bongo which records temperature, depth, and salinity. These operations are conducted during Plankton Surveys aboard the Oregon II.
